Nice to meet me
It all begins with an idea.
Hello!
my name is Liberty Lam Hurley. I am from Mandan, North Dakota, and I currently live in Bozeman, Montana. I am starting this blog/personal page/online store front to start taking control of my everyday. I want to post what I want and share it with whoever is wanting to partake. I appreciate all of the support I have gotten so far, and I hope you continue to enjoy what I put out.
When i sit down to write about myself and what I have done with my 22 years of life, i always fall short. What is important to me? and will it be important to you all? Who knows. but if no one has a good answer, then there is no wrong answer either.
with that as a preface, i will start with how Libby Lammy came to be. I come from a family of 7 with 4 siblings - Tyler, Sampson, Zoe, and Scout - and my parents - Kip and Patience. The first time I remember being called libby, although I had been called libby forever, was when my kindergarden teacher asked me if I preferred being called Libby or Liberty. at 5, I had never thought so internally, but my answer then remains the same for today - i am not sure. When i refer to myself, i am libby, but I will always introduce myself as liberty, because that is my name.
i never thought Libby would follow me outside of north dakota, but when i made my first friends in montana and they met my siblings or heard me talk about myself, they picked up on the nickname. my closest friends always land on libby, but i have extra love for those friends that still call me liberty.
My middle name, lam, comes from my mom. Lam is her maiden name, and although hurley is a name i am grateful for, i have always felt so much pride in holding my mother’s name. That is how libby lammy came to be, as an endearment from my mom. The nickname has a kind of sillyness and softness that is stuffed into everything I create. Libby lammy became something that eminated from me and mine.
Next, I want to say a little more about myself.
I graduated from Montana State university in 2023 with a degree in Global and multicultural studies and Spanish. my diploma would say that I graduated with Liberal studies and hispanic studies as a minor, but this feels like a misrepresentation of my education. I moved to bozeman as a sophmore in college. I spent my first year doing online school (2020 high school graduate) and working full time at Big Sky Ski resort in big sky, Montana. I wanted to move to arizona after big sky, but i couldn’t afford school there, so instead i used my dad’s montana residency and got in state tuition at montana state in bozeman. I loved msu and am grateful for what i learned there, but i still hope to move somewhere a little warmer to continue my education someday soon.
I live in a house that i share with my greatest friends, some of which are also in Ugly Hollywood the collective. my house is welcoming, nurished on homemade meals that we all work to provide, and full to the brim with creativity. I have always been surrounded by creatives. My siblings and parents are all artists, my friends are artisits, and I am an artist. Fiber art is what i am most often drawn to, but I like to say that I am the master of all crafting.
I have been making pillows like a lunatic recently. foot is my most commented on shape, but I make all sorts of other shapes. If you are interested in buying some of my work, please check out the market. I try to make all of my art sustainably by thrifting fabric and old pillows to tear out their stuffing (cleaned first of course).
A big project of mine is largely featured on this website - the 2025 calendar. I created an editorial calendar for 2025. I had help from friends and family along the way, and I am so proud of it. Check out this Link to find the photos and their assigned months :)
I am running out of things to say today, so thank you for reading to this point.
<3,
Libby
